Notes on a road trip - Day 1

23 August 2022, Tuesday

Left Centurion at 9:50. Scenic route on the N14 to Ventersdorp and from there onto the N12. It has a few interesting zig and zags and one of them goes through a small place called Dominionville - never heard of it, but the corner we saw was very nice. The roads are in pretty good condition, that is to say, well patched, but no potholes.

Lovely day for the start of a road trip!

Lunch at The Local Spot Padstal & Deli just outside Wolmaransstad.

Some bubbly to start the trip with! Apple blossom and citrus, very interesting and low in alcohol. The driver didn't partake, he had a responsible Coke.

Skaapstertjies and grilled hake.

What a lovely gem of a place! Great food and very nice atmosphere.

And now for the road though Wolmaransstad ... everyone warned about the bad road, BUT what a lovely surprise - the road through town is brand new!! Way to go North West. 👏

The next stop on the N12 was in Kimberley at the Spar to get provisions for the evening.

About 20km before Hopetown we took a left onto a gravel road and after 6km arrived at Wiida GastePlaas. What a lovely setting. Pet friendly and the 3 dogs were every happy to greet the newcomers. Charmaine and Albert are very hospitable hosts and the place was very cosy and comfortable. Good pillows (which for me is always a big plus 🙌) and very nice touches made the stay warm and relaxing. Just a side note, I brought my own pillows, but they were still supporting my golf bag in the back of the Kombi, and therefore not part of the overnight bag we offloaded 😉

These are blood orange G&Ts ... under a yellow porch light. 😂

The end of day 1, stay tuned for more.
